Dear Wu Yun and Ren Wanjie,
I am deeply saddened by the news about the passing of your beloved husband and father, Ren Donglai. I join you, your extended families, and HNC friends in morning the huge loss we are all experiencing.
May it be of comfort that his memory will live on! He was not only a kind, gentle, and genuine human being but also a brilliant scholar, mentor and friend who touched the lives of many, and contributed to better understanding of US-China relations.
Please know you are not far from my thoughts and prayers and will be joining you in spirit at his memorial.
