哥伦布大交换以来——环境史视野下的美国历史变迁研习营邀请公告

尊敬的学界同仁、学友:

 

为了提升我国从事美国史教学与研究的硕、博士研究生和青年学者的学术能力,拓展国际学术视野,及时把握最新的学术动态,促进不同领域青年学者之间的交流与协作。南开大学历史学院将举办主题为‘哥伦布大交换’以来——环境史视野下的美国历史变迁的研习营活动。这次研习营由中国美国史研究会(AHRAC)和美国历史学家协会(OAH)联合主办,南开大学历史学院、南开大学美国研究中心和南开大学世界近现代史研究中心承办,驻营主讲学者莉萨·布雷迪(Lisa Brady)教授由美国历史学家协会遴选产生,是美国学术界从事这一领域研究的权威专家。具体事项如下:

 

一、主讲学者

 

主讲学者莉萨·布雷迪(Lisa Brady)教授,毕业于堪萨斯大学,现为博伊西州立大学(Boise State University)历史系教授,并任《环境史杂志》(Environmental History)主编。其主要研究领域为人类活动与环境之间的关系,特别关注战争与环境,探讨军事活动与自然环境之间的互动,在《环境史杂志》、《外交史杂志》、《内战史杂志》以及《亚洲研究杂志》发表多篇学术论文,代表作为《依地而战:美国内战时期的军事战略与南部景致的变迁》(War upon the Land: Millitary Strategy and the Transformation of Southern Landscapes during the American Civil War, 2012)

 

二、主要内容

 

莉萨·布雷迪教授将引领学员探究美国环境史领域的重要问题。除此之外,她还将重点介绍美国学术界在相关领域的前沿性研究、新的研究方法以及研究动态。研习营的基本内容包括:(1)环境史学的出现与发展;(2)农业与美国环境的塑造;(3)美国的环境保护主义;(4)环境史研究的新方法;(5)环境史学的意义与应用。

 

三、时间、地点及费用

 

时间:2018年6月24-28日。

地点:南开大学津南校区

费用:课程费用全免;食宿由研习营承担;往返交通费自理;如有特殊情况,可申请部分交通费补贴。

 

四、邀请对象

 

全国高校和科研机构世界史及其他相关领域的青年教师、研究人员、期刊编辑以及在读博士、硕士研究生均可报名。参加者须具备一定的学术研究能力以及较强的英语听、说、读、写能力。

 

为保证研习营质量,参加者总人数限定为30名。

 

五、申请及录取

 

请申请者将个人简历(中文和英文)和研究计划(英文,不低于500字,用于交流研讨)以附件形式发送至:

邮件主题与文档标题格式为:姓名-院校(研究机构)-个人简历/研究计划。

 

申请截止日期为2019年5月20

 

主办方和承办方将对申请材料进行联合评审,将于2019年5月31前以邮件方式通知录取学员。录取名单还将通过中国美国史研究会的网站及微信公众平台进行发布。

Themes for Nankai University Workshop on US Environmental History, June 24-28, 2019

 

 

Day 1

Putting Down Roots: The Birth and Growth of Environmental History as a Field

This session introduces Environmental Historys intellectual and methodological origins and explores its evolution as a distinct field within the larger historical discipline.

 

Day 2

Tending the Soil: Agriculture

In this session, we will examine the many forms of agriculturefrom Indigenous cultivation practices to factory farmsthat have shaped the American landscape.

 

Day 3

Cultivating an Ethos: Conservation, Preservation, and Environmentalism

Today we will focus on the variety of ways Americans have attempted to mitigate and repair the damage done to the nations natural heritage.

 

Day 4

Branching Out: New Approaches to the Field

Environmental history, like the nature it studies, constantly adapts and evolves in response to new inputs. This session explores several developments in the field, including animal studies, militarized landscapes, disease and the body, and the built environment.

 

Day 5

Producing Fruit: The Broader Meaning and Applications of Environmental History

Well conclude the workshop with a discussion of how environmental history can contribute to other endeavors, including the search for equity and justice.
